Keep Our Oceans Clean
Why is this important?
Oceans make up over 70% of Earth's surface and are crucial to our everyday life. They feed us, regulate our climate, and produce most of the air that we breathe. We use the ocean for transportation, medicine, and recreation, and it provides numerous economic benefits by producing over 200 billion dollars in goods and services. However, overfishing, climate change, and pollutions have all put our oceans at risk. Recent studies have shown that over half of the world's coral reefs have already been destroyed since 1950, and thousands of seaturtles, seals, and other marine life die every year due to pollution.
Here are three easy ways you can help
-
Reduce your carbon footprint
A large portion of carbon dioxide is absorbed by the ocean, and cutting down on your carboon footprint is vital for sea life. You can make simply lifestyle changes such as avoiding fast fashion and reducing use of plastic to easily cut down on your carbon footprint.
-
Leave nothing behind
Don't forget to bring a bag with you every time that you take a trip to the beach and remember to never leave anything behind other than your footprints.
-
Volunteer to clean up
If you live near an ocean, you can volunteer to pick up litter with your local community, removing plastic and preventing any trash from entering the water and threatening marine life.
