Because of a rapidly expanding population, more children in the region are growing up in poverty than in 1990. Child poverty includes monetary and non-monetary dimensions โ defined as deprivations of rights and access to essential social services, such as health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, education, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), and child protection. Poverty continues to be the driving force behind kids dropping out. Children who have to work to support their families and themselves are much less likely to attend school, because getting food on the table is a higher priority than getting an education. ๐Found out more
