On 13 September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian woman named "Mahsa Amini" , also known as "Jina Amini" from the Iranian Kurdish city of Saqez, was arrested in Tehran, capital of Iran, for "unsuitable attire" by the morality police who enforce the Islamic Republic's strict dress code. She died three days later in hospital after falling into a coma, sparking the first big show of opposition on Iran's streets since authorities crushed protests against a rise in gasoline prices in 2019.
Amini's death resulted in a series of protests, described by CNN as
more widespread than the protests in 2009, 2017, and 2019, and by The
New York Times as the largest Iranian protests since at least 2009.
Some female demonstrators removed their hijab or publicly cut their
hair as acts of protest.
By start of November 2022, Iran Human Rights reported that at least
304 people including 41 children and 24 women were
killed by security forces confronting protests across the country.
Security forces have fired directly on protesters using live
ammunition, bird shot, tear gas and even paintballs. The government
has also imposed internet restrictions, including blocking access to
Instagram and WhatsApp, and has waged a campaign of mass arrests.
Hundreds of people have been swept up in the wave of arrests,
including protesters, journalists and activists.
Just because another country has not attacked us doesn't mean we're
at peace.
Iran is at WAR !!
Iranians have been at a brutal unfair WAR for 43 years!!
