What is street art?

Keith Haring, We the Youth

Defined as artwork that is located in public spaces, street art has a way of brining a community and a casue together. Creating a living breathing space for people to join on causes that really matter. The canvas is anything and anywhere the people are present. There was a shift in terms of street art, or graffiti, in the 90s. But the concept of street art is not new - look at cave drawings and hieroglyphics. Mainstream artist like the one shown above have evolved the once taboo art into something that can mean more than letters in paint.

Art that Speaks

Shepard Fairey, Mark Art Not War

“I laugh at the way some people think graffiti is all selfish tagging and vandalism. Thoughtful street art is like good fiction – it speaks out on behalf of everyone, for us all to see.” Carla H. Krueger
