Recent effects of Climate change in Nigeria

603 people killed and 1.3million people displaced since september 2022

What really went wrong?

This year Nigeria was hit with the worst flood crises affecting 33 states out of 36 states. This crises has killed over 600 people and over 1.3million people have been displaced. Intense rainfall has been a huge contributor to the disaster, and in September, a dam in Cameroon which boarders Nigeria to the east, released excess water. Nigeria does not have a dam to contain the overflow, even though the two countries agreed in the 1980s that one should be built. Another major cause is climate change, which leads to more extreme storms and rainfall.
