To save our planet we need to reduce our ecological footprint.

What is an ecological footprint? 🤔

"The Ecological Footprint is the only metric that compares the resource demand of individuals,

governments, and businesses against what Earth can renew."

Climate Change

The Ecological Footprint framework addresses climate change in a comprehensive way beyond measuring carbon emissions. It shows how carbon emissions compare and interact with other components of human demand. This includes demands for food, for timber from forests, and for land for cities and roads.

Earth Overshoot Day

Earth Overshoot Day is our annual campaign that marks the date when humanity has exhausted nature’s budget for the entire year. Earth Overshoot Day 2019 fell on July 29. For the rest of the year, we are maintaining our ecological deficit by drawing down local resource stocks and accumulating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources (fish and forests, for instance) and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. We keep growing this deficit by liquidating the Earth’s natural capital and accumulating waste, primarily carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Andrew Simms originally conceived the concept of Earth Overshoot Day while working at the UK think tank New Economics Foundation.

Footprint and Biodiversity

The threats facing the rich array of plant and animal life on our planet seem greater than at any time in modern history. Problems such as climate change, water shortages, overharvesting, and habitat disruption—symptoms of human pressure on the planet’s finite resources—are driving down wildlife populations worldwide.
