What's Your Favourite Scary Movie?

👻👽Horror Films, and why we love them💀🔪

Horror is a film genre that seeks to elicit fear or disgust in its audience for entertainment purposes. Horror films often explore dark subject matter and may deal with transgressive topics or themes. Broad elements include monsters, apocalyptic events, and religious or folk beliefs.

There have been several studies into why so many people flock to the cinema to see the latest horror, it can seem bizarre to some people considering our instinct in everyday life is to avoid things that scare us.

A common theory is that engaging with dangerous and horrifying situations from the comfort of a movie theatre is almost akin to exposure therapy. Renowned master of the genre Wes Craven once stated that “horror films don’t create fear, they release it.” Which succinctly seems to offer the same explanation.

Other theories include the idea that horror allows us to project any personal 'monsters' we may be facing in our everyday life onto those that the characters are facing and they are then able to see these monsters vanquished.
