Adenium Obesum

Also Known As The Desert Rose

Various types of desert roses

The desert rose (adenium obesum) is a dry tolerant, succulent plant. It is native to Africa and the middle east. It is grown in variety ways in different parts of the world. Some gardeners grow their desert roses like a bonsai plant, while others grow them as tall as a small tree. They have beautiful trumpet shaped flowers. The common colors are white, pink, and red but there have been more variations in color such as purple and yellow.

Desert rose plants love the sun and do not like cold frosty weather. It is best to grow them in flowerpots and soil with good drainage. Having them in flowerpots can make it easy to move the desert rose plants indoors during the chilly winter months. Desert rose plants are beautiful, but they are also poisonous. Make sure you keep them where your pets cannot get to them. This is not a plant for consumption. If you must tend to the plant, make sure you wear gloves or wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water afterwards.

The desert rose is a great plant to keep with other succulents or cactus plants. It is also a great plant to maintain for the novice gardener.
