Pastéis de nata or pastéis de Belém are one of the most popular specialties of Portuguese sweets. Although you can taste pastéis de nata in many cafes and pastry shops, the original recipe is an exclusive secret of Fábrica dos Pastéis de Belém, in Lisbon (the only place whose pastries should be called Pastéis de Belém). There, traditionally, the pastries are eaten hot, sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon. 🔥
In 1837 we began making the original Pastéis de Belém, following an ancient recipe from the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. That secret recipe 🤫🔒 is recreated every day in our bakery, by hand, using only traditional methods. Even today, the Pastéis de Belém offer the unique flavour of time-honoured Portuguese sweet making.
Pastel de Belém was elected in 2011 as one of the 7 Wonders of Portuguese Gastronomy. 🏆
