Panettone

A panettone is the apotheosis of natural leavening.

The panettone is part of the currency in Italian life - it is a popular thing to give another family to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. It is meant to be eaten with prosecco or champagne a few hours before or after a meal or even for breakfast the morning after.
Often families will put it near the radiator or in front of the fireplace so that it can warm gently before it's eaten.
