What is crocheting? With so many forms of handcraft entering the mainstream recently, it's easy to get confused what tools are needed and what the end creation will be. One can say that crocheting is monotonous, as it involves only a limited number of stitches you have to repeat in rows or in combinations, and some people probably indeed find it dull, but as our brain is fond of patterns and seeks them constantly in the surrounding world, it can be a source of genuine joy.
Crochet is a needlework technique performed using a crochet hook plus fiber or other similar material, most commonly yarn. The goal is to complete a crochet project of choice, most typically scarves, hats, granny squares, blankets, or even plushies, which can serve as gifts for family and friends, house decorations or an addition to our wardrobe. The process of crocheting can have a calming and meditative effect on our body and mind.
Here you can learn how to read a crochet pattern by getting introduced to various abbreviations most commonly used in such instructions.
You will make mistakes! But keep in mind that they're either easily fixable or almost unnoticeable. Personally, I'm very fond of imperfect creations and view them as more of an interesting quirk than a genuine mistake 😉
