Three-hundred years since the last wolf was hunted, conservationists are asking the Scottish government to reintroduce wolves back to the country. Wolves have substantial benefits to an ecosystems, as demonstrated at Yellowstone where their introduction was an enormous success.
Wolves play a key role in keeping ecosystems healthy. They help keep deer populations in check, which can benefit many other plant and animal species. The carcasses of their prey also help to redistribute nutrients and provide food for other wildlife species.
The Rewilding Alliance (SWA) has asked the government to support a project that would set aside a third of public land for nature, including land for wolves. You can learn more about the rewilding project and the wolves here.
