As a Mexican, I am proud to say that chocolate comes from what is now present day Mexico. It was here where cocoa plants were found and used to make chocolate 4,000 years ago. The Olmecs, one of the oldest civilizations in the world used chocolate in rituals and as medicine. It was also revered in Mayan and Aztec cultures. When the Spanish came they took the sacred delicacy back to Spain with them where it then slowly made its way through Europe and all over the world where it has evolved into the sweet stuff we love today! 🍫
