Ska-ana(Haidan)are some of the names the Orca Whale has been called. The word
Orca comes from the Latin word Orcinus. It means "Belonging to Orcus",
Orcus was the God of the underworld (and the punisher of broken oaths) in
Etruscan and Roman Mythology.
Carl von Linné, a Swedish taxonomist, labelled the orca in 1758 in his
book The 10th edition of Systema Naturae as "Delphinus orca" or "demon
dolphin". Despite it's names dark past, the Orca is a beautiful and majestic marine animal.
