Oleksandr Murashko (1875-1919) was an artist, teacher, and a founder of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts. It is his name that Europe of the early 20th century associated Ukrainian art. We are pleased to invite you to the exhibition of his paintings.
The bulk of his creative legacy is portraiture. The artist was primarily interested in people which are depicted in his paintings as someone always closely connected with the environment. In addition, Murashko envisioned transforming Kyiv into a major European art centre.
He said, “Kyiv should become what Munich has become for all of Germany, an independent art centre of the South. We have light, sun, beautiful natural surroundings and a unique culture.”
