La Colonia Tovar, an isolated town set in the tropics of the Venezuelan forest, resembles a traditional German alpine village. It is situated close to the northern coast of the country and was founded by settlers from Europe.
It was established in 1843 by a group of immigrants who travelled from the
Black Forest (Schwarzwald) in south-west Germany. It's kept much of its German heritage, which shows through in its
architecture, food, drink and even festivals.
