Dubrovnik Historic Jewelry
Explore ancient jewelry trade
The goldsmiths trade in Dubrovnik is one of
the oldest, and certainly
the best-known trades. While the beginnings of the goldsmiths trade go
back to the
13th century,
it flourished in the 14th and 15th centuries.
With their adroit hands the Dubrovnik goldsmiths made the favorite
adornments of Dubrovnik ladies with special care, skill and artistry.
The gold, filigree silver and coral jewelry is fascinating for its timeless beauty and workmanship. To complete only one piece of traditional jewelry, like for instance the Dubrovnik Perusini, a goldsmith will need up to 8 straight hours of work depending on the size.
The rečini (earrings) or puce (decorative buttons) from the period of Dubrovnik Republic are still crafted and sold today as a beautiful symbol of rich history.
