The island has an elongated shape from west to east, in the west it continues with a long sandy spit that "connects" the island with the shore. The spit of the island is separated from the mainland by a narrow strait, which sometimes dries up, formally turning the island into a peninsula. 2 km from the spit, on the coast of the Kherson region, is the resort village of Lazurne.
