Dmitri Shostakovich

🎼 was really cool 🎼

Dmitri Shostakovich was a Soviet-era composer, and one of the most prominent figures of 20th-century music.

Shostakovich endured a great deal of oppression from the Stalin government, which you can notice in his music. Still, he managed to mock the regime through his compositions.

His Seventh Symphony, also called the Leningrad Symphony, was premiered by a half-starved Orquestra during the Siege of Leningrad. This piece is a symbol of resistance against authoritative governments.

The power of his music is the raw emotion it transmits: as an example, listen to his String Quartet No. 8 , which he wrote in 3 days, while contemplating suicide.
