Maria's city on fire

mariupol

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, but in Mariupol it all started 8 years ago. Over the years, being close to the conflict line, Mariupol nevertheless developed and turned into a modern European city.

mariupol

Due to the inept actions of the authorities and the disbelief of the inhabitants in the possibility of a full-scale war, already on March 1, the entire city was surrounded. For more than 3 weeks, residents were locked in the city under constant shelling, without electricity, gas, water and heating. Moreover, the city, cut off from supplies, was left without food and drinking water. For many days, people risked their lives to cook food on fires and melt water from the snow.
According to conservative estimates, more than 20,000 people have died in the city since the outbreak of hostilities. About 90% of the housing stock has been destroyed. But the worst thing is that no one gives full information about the situation in Mariupol. There are many stories from the city and this tragedy of the Mariupol hell has not bypassed anyone. I'll tell you the one that still makes me wince.

“My neighbor, along with her husband and two children, was hiding in the basement of a multi-storey building. To make it not so scary, they went to the house of her brother and his family. Late in the evening, a shell hit the same house and the basement was covered with earth and stones. dig everything out by yourself 2 out of 4 children were already dead 2 mothers went in with 2 children and left with 1. Looking at my children every day I can't imagine that this is possible in today's world. This girl who died there was a friend my daughter, was the same ordinary child."
