The first soufflé pancakes were actually invented in 2008, at a restaurant in Hawaii, where they started giving pancakes a soufflé-like appearance, and decorated them with vanilla custard, whipped cream, and fruit. The pancakes were so famous that the idea was taken overseas, and expanded to Tokyo in 2010. However, some Japanese restaurants claim that soufflé pancakes originated in Tokyo. Although so many restaurants have started to offer it on their menus in Japan and in many other asian countries, they originated from Hawaii.
