Located in the heart of Europe, Slovakia is a hidden gem that is often
overlooked by travellers -which is surprising as it is one of my
all-time favourite destinations! The compact size and convenient
location makes it a perfect getaway for adventure seekers on a budget
and with a time-crunch.
Slovakia, although small, has so much to offer. Here are my top 5
reasons why you should add Slovakia to your next Euro trip.
- Adventure: Slovakia is surrounded by the beautiful High Tatra Mountains which offers so much variety of adventure all year round. In the summer, you can hike up the mountains (my favourite is Mt. Chopok), climb through one of the 12 ancient caves, raft on the Dunajec river, or hike the intense Janosikove Diery. In the winter, the High Tatras turn into a winter wonderland, offering amazing slopes and other snow activities.
- Castles: Slovakia has the highest number of castles and chateaux per capita in Europe. There are over 220 castles and 425 châteaux, which is quite impressive when you take into account how small we are. My favourites are the Spis Castle and Bojnice.
- Hot springs: There are more than 1300 mineral sources in Slovakia that are used like curative water and high quality mineral water for drinking. There are 21 thermal spas built on these mineral springs. The main focus of the âcureâ is often drinking water from the spring (and it usually tastes like medicine), but all of the spas also offer soothing soaks, massages and other restorative therapies, as well as swimming and other recreational opportunities in beautiful natural settings. with healing effects.
- Untouched: Slovakia is still âoff-the-beaten-pathâ, undiscovered by tourists which makes it a truly peaceful experience when touring the country.
- Cuisine: Food in Slovakia is the ultimate comfort food...but unlike anything youâve tried before. Be sure to try âBryndzove haluskyâ ...trust me, you wonât regret it.
