Unprecedented demonstrations broke out in Belarus after Alexander
Lukashenko, who has ruled for 26 years, claimed to have defeated
opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and won re-election with 80%
of the vote on 9 August, 2020.
The elections have been falsified. According to all alternative counting
organized by human rights groups or counting in other countries Svetlana
Tikhanovskaya has gathered 70 % of all the votes.
As of September 15th, there have been 37 days of non-stop protests in
Belarus, where people are standing up against self -proclaimed
president. But he insists that he is not going anywhere.
Peaceful protesters are being arrested, violently beaten by the police
and military forces, shot by rubber bullets, and bombarded by stan
grenades. Thousands of peaceful protesters have been detained in prisons
in awful conditions and tortured, some of them are already dead.
UN reports 450 cases of torture and at least 6 missing people. The
authorities hide and deny the death of the protesters.
